Hello, my name is Ciara. I am a one year old, spayed female, black and tan Dobermann. I didn't always look as good as my picture. When I first arrived here at the Centre back in February, I was far from being the good-looking girl that I am now. I was and still am suffering from Generalized Demodectic Mange. What is demodectic mange you ask? It is a skin disease caused by tiny mites that inhabit everybody's bodies. When your immune system is very low, like mine was, the mites take control. The end result is a dog that has lesions covering most of their body, is very itchy and uncomfortable. My hair had fallen out on most of my body and my feet were very swollen. I had a bath once a week and was put on medication to help me get rid of the mites. I am pleased to say that I am recovering nicely, thus far. I am going to be a special needs case, because we don't know if the mange will ever go away.
The wonderful staff here is taking applications for me to find a new forever home. What they (and me) are looking for are:
1) Somebody that has Dobermann experience. What this means is that my new family will have an understanding of my breed, our potential health problems and behaviour.
2) Somebody willing to take the time and patience to help me learn. I still have some very bad manners and it is going to take a lot of time and patience to help me get on the right track. I will need to go to Obedience School to help me learn what I need to know.
3) Sorry, no children under the age of 12 please. With all my issues, it wouldn't be fair to me or the children that I be in a home where they are little.
If you think you have what it takes to take on a special girl like me, please come on down to the Centre and ask to meet me, Ciara!

I'll do my best to respond in turn in a timely manner. Have a great day!

Isn't Ciara stunning! Pam we will re-blog this to see if we can assist in finding Ciara a loving home!
Thank you! It's going to take a lot of work to find this gal the owner she deserves and your help is totally appreciated!!
I absolutely love Dobs! I have a story about how one saved my life as a little kid, but it's too long to type out :P I hope she finds a loving home.
OMG what a beautiful Dob. I will post him on my Canadian "like" FB page you never know.
Hi Carissa,
I'd love to read about it - maybe make a blog post some day?
Hi Richard,
That would be great! You're right - you never know.
She is beautiful! I had a red Dobi with the same type problems years ago that we rescued and I just loved her bunches. I hope she finds a home quickly.
Hi Debra,
Some breeds just have certain problems, and it takes the educated owner to realize that and know how to deal with them.
I love dobermanns too and it breaks my heart to think she's been at the humane society for so long. They do a great job there, especially getting her health back up, but there's no place like a forever home.
Pam, good luck with this one. She looks lovely.
Hi Janice,
I hope she finds a good home. It's nice that a couple people on AR have offered to help with that. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)
Hi Pam - I'm going to reblog for the greater Kingston area. As mentioned above, you just never know!
Thanks, Susan. I appreciate that :)
Hi Pam, thanks for the excellent post, there are a lot of friends out there looking for a home.
Hi Dan,
There are way too many looking for a home. Perhaps with the growing realization that animals do have feelings too and are not just ornaments for the home, the problem will reduce itself...but for now it's huge.
